FGS Pilcher Invests in Cat D6 XE to Strengthen Earthworks Capability
FGS Pilcher has strengthened its specialist earthworks fleet with the addition of a new Cat® D6 XE dozer, supporting our continued investment in efficient, productive and lower-impact machinery.
The new machine will enhance our capabilities across a wide range of earthworks projects, including lake and reservoir construction, wetland creation, landforming, site preparation and wider environmental engineering works.
Electric Drive technology
The Cat D6 XE is the world’s first high-drive Electric Drive dozer, combining the power required for demanding earthmoving applications with improved efficiency and greater control.
Unlike a conventional mechanical transmission, its Electric Drive system has no gears to shift, providing constant power to the ground and helping operators work efficiently across changing ground conditions.
According to Caterpillar, the D6 XE can deliver up to 13% lower fuel consumption and up to 20% lower CO₂ emissions compared with the previous D6T T4F. Fewer moving parts, longer service intervals and fewer scheduled maintenance tasks can also reduce maintenance costs by up to 12%.
These efficiencies support FGS Pilcher’s ongoing focus on investing in modern equipment that combines productivity with reduced environmental impact.
Greater precision for specialist earthworks
Effective earthworks are about more than moving large volumes of material. Accuracy, control and efficient material placement are particularly important when creating engineered landscapes and water infrastructure.
The D6 XE can incorporate Cat Grade and Assist technologies designed to improve grading accuracy and productivity. Combined with the machine’s power, agility and Electric Drive system, this makes it well suited to both bulk earthmoving and more precise grading operations.

The investment comes as water resilience is becoming an increasingly important consideration for farmers, landowners and rural businesses.
FGS Pilcher has extensive experience in reservoir, lake and pond construction, providing support from feasibility and site preparation through to excavation, earthworks, lining and completion.
Reservoir construction can involve significant volumes of material and requires careful excavation, placement, compaction and profiling. Adding the D6 XE to our fleet gives our experienced operators another highly capable machine for undertaking these demanding works.
The new dozer will complement our existing specialist earthmoving equipment, strengthening our ability to deliver complete reservoir and water storage projects.
