Case Study
Ornamental Pond Restoration
Client: Private client in East Sussex

Overview
A private client in East Sussex required the restoration of a long-established ornamental garden pond that had become heavily silted, with an ageing liner that had deteriorated and failed in several areas.
The pond sits within a carefully maintained landscaped garden containing mature planting and established wildlife habitats. The project required the careful removal of accumulated silt, replacement of the damaged liner, and reinstatement of surrounding features while ensuring minimal disruption to the garden environment.
FGS Pilcher carried out the works with a strong focus on protecting the existing landscape and preserving the wildlife that had made the pond its home.
The Challenge
The pond was located within a mature and carefully maintained garden, requiring all works to be carried out with minimal disruption to lawns, planting and existing features.
Wildlife had to be safely removed before works began, and access for machinery was restricted. Existing elements, including brick copings and a fountain feature, also needed to be removed and reinstated during the restoration.
The Solution
Wildlife was safely relocated before the pond was drained and cleared of silt. The damaged liner was removed and replaced to restore the pond’s structure.
Track mats were installed to protect lawns and allow safe machinery access. Brick copings were carefully removed and reinstated, and the fountain was reinstalled on completion.
The project successfully restored the pond while protecting the surrounding landscape and returning wildlife to the renewed habitat.
