Overview

FGS Pilcher was appointed to support the improvement of Pluckley Recreation Ground, delivering new pathway infrastructure as part of a wider community-led project to upgrade the playground and site accessibility.

Following nearly three years of planning and fundraising by the local community, the project aimed to create a safer, more accessible and inclusive space for all users. Working alongside FGS Agri, our team helped bring the project to life, contributing to a facility that will benefit the community for years to come.

The Challenge 

The existing playground had reached the end of its lifespan and required full replacement. In addition, access across the recreation ground was limited, with routes primarily over grass.

This created difficulties for pushchairs, wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility, particularly during wetter months when ground conditions became challenging.

There was also a need to provide safer, defined routes around the site to support both general access and recreational use for children

The Solution

FGS Pilcher delivered the construction of new circular pathways throughout the recreation ground, designed to improve both accessibility and usability. The pathways were carefully planned and installed to:

• Provide reliable, all-weather access across the site
• Create safe, durable walking routes
• Offer a smooth, secure surface for children to ride bikes and scooters
• Integrate seamlessly with the new playground installation

Works were carried out efficiently and safely, with close coordination to minimise disruption while accommodating the wider programme of playground improvements.

The Outcome

The completed works have significantly enhanced Pluckley Recreation Ground, transforming it into a more accessible and user-friendly community space.
