Case Study:
Romney Marsh & Kent Wildlife Trust
Last year we undertook some ditching work using grant money from The Fifth Continent scheme in partnership with the Kent Wildlife Trust. The Fifth Continent Landscape Partnership Scheme seeks to deliver a number of exciting projects based around three key themes to Restore, Rediscover and Reclaim Romney Marsh.
The work involved:
- Creating optimal ditch conditions for wildlife by balancing the maintenance needs for drainage with the maintenance needs for biodiversity
- Reprofiling ditches to open them up to allow more light to reach the bottom of the channels
This work forms part of the Blue Lanes Project which aims to deliver advice, surveys and coordination of capital works to ditches for the benefit of wildlife whilst balancing the need for flow, flood management and drainage.
